Unfollow in Twitter [Goodbye - Adios - Slán]

I use Twitter as a tool to interact, learn, laugh and share information.  I love it and use it nearly every day.

However I do unfollow people for the reasons below.  Don’t take offence but it is what I do. You may have different tastes and needs from Twitter and that is what makes it interesting.

  • Sending out what you are listening to using one of the many streaming music sites.  Sorry I don’t care what you are listening to.I love music and the song you have on your PC might be interesting but not to me. UNFOLLOW
  • Using Twitter constantly as a chat tool.  I do chat on Twitter.  Share a few thoughts.  I rarely go beyond 2-3 interactions and then I move to Direct Message (DM).  If you think Twitter is MSN Messenger then great carry on. UNFOLLOW
  • What you are doing now.  Sometimes a tweet is funny about what people are doing  and makes me smile.  But if your Tweets are constantly along the style of  – going for coffee – then I am gone.  However if your tweet is – “Just drank a great coffee – Starbucks blend X.  Here is where you can get it online http://…..” then I am cool.  OR a tweet like “Going for a run. Here is a pictorisl Google map of where I run http://…” then it does peak my interest. Saying that I am guilty occasionally of doing this.  But please I don’t care if you are going to bed – everyone goes to bed – grin -.UNFOLLOW
  • Constantly tweeting the same style of message.  I like quotes, inspirational messages, feeds from feedburner, and free offers.  But if its is your constant Twitter stream then sorry. UNFOLLOW

The important thing for me is people are doing this constantly.  We are all human (well some of you are bots!) and prone to making errors.  But if you are increasing followers and Tweeting to a greater number of people then be a little more considerate.  Ask yourself the question would you send an e-mail to 1000 people with the text “Night night?”

Night night.
