How To Install Google Analytics on WordPress

Google Analytics is an excellent tool for tracking your website statistics and for understanding the natures and behaviour of your traffic.  If you have a WordPress blog then it is straightforward to enable GA on your site as there are a number of plugins that allow you to do this really easily.  In this post I will speak specifically about the WP Google Analytics plugin that I use the most.

Finding the Google Analytics Plugin

Login to your WordPress Dashboard and on the left hand side you will see the Plugins Link. Click on this now.

Then click on the Add New link.

You are then presented with the Install Plugins window.  The Plugin that we are going to install is WP Google Analytics.  Type this into the search window.  You will be presented with a list of plugins.  The one you want is WP Google Analytics.

Click on the Install button to the right of the plugin description.  Go on don’t be scared it wont hurt. v When prompted by the pop window Clic Install Now. this just installs the plugin on your WordPress installation.  When the install completes (only takes a few seconds) then you need to Active the Plugin.  Select Activate Plugin from the options presented below.

Adding Your Google Analytics Code
Nearly there.  The plugin is now activated and you need to set it up with your Google Analytics code.  Click on Settings on the right hand panel and you should see the Google Analytics plugin at the botton.
Click on Google Analytics and you will be presented with a window to post your Google Analytics code into its own window.  If you do not have not set up a Google Analytics account and do not have a code do not worry, in my next post I will show how to do this and get the code.  PAste in your GA code and the click Update Options.  All your pages and posts will now have this code automatically at the end of them.

The World is Full of Idiots and Others!

We all get Spam.  I use GMail for my e-mail and it kicks ass for keeping spam out of my Inbox and into my Spam folder.  On the other hand it just amazes me at the volume of it that is out there, no sooner do I empty my spam folder than a few hours later it is full again..  These people must work night and day automating accounts and creating these dumb ass e-mails hoping that along the way someone is stupid enough to click on the wrong link.

Why do they do it ?- Simple answer- because it is profitable.  The world is full of people who eventually will screw up and click or e-mail or get phished.  So what?  There are also many intelligent people out there looking for information on your product.  If you present it correctly and in a clear and concise manner not only will they come read your information but they will also come back looking for more information.

However like the spammers you need to work hard and intelligently to achieve this.  Here are some tips that you may not have thought of before.

  1. ASK THEM:  Ask people what information they are looking to learn about and then bust your ass creating information that will save them finding it out there
  2. DON’T WRITE – DRAW:  Create a snappy graphic and flow chart for a change to show what you mean.  The infographic is taking hold more and more.  Create a simple one about the topic you write about.
  3. WRITE LOTS AND SMALL:  The Internet Age has reduced peoples attention span significantly.  Write a little, add a graphic, write a little more, break it up into small pieces and write say 3 small articles, pages with links rather than one long yawn.
  4. ASK THEM FOR FEEDBACK: Ask people for feedback on your post.  Say I am trying to get interest in this topic – what am I doing wrong here. Ask for frank feedback.
  5. MULTIPLE SITES: Well have more than one site so that you can cover more than one topic.
