SEO Tips for Nuclear Bloggers

Let me first clarify.  I am not a Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) expert.  But I have read hundreds of pages on the topics and posses a number of ebooks on the topics in my library so I have built a solid knowledge base in the area.  SEO experts however can stop right here.  They will not learn anything new. Go away, I’ll wait till you hit the Back button.

Ok those who are left are people who are looking for SEO 101 or SEO for pre-schoolers. You are in the right place as I am just a beginner sharing information with you as I learn it.

Why SEO

Simple,  you want your page to show up on Google when people search for it.  These tips wont do it but if you don’t do them you are already doomed. So here are the Beginners Guide to Writing Good SEO Pages (Pre School SEO for Nuclear Bloggers as I call it).

Explode the Title of Page

The title of your page must at least have some relevance to what Google is looking for.  If your blog, business site is about selling nuclear warheads and the title is ‘My New Web Site’ then the odds are verrrry low that Google will attach any relevance to the search. You may laugh but it is very common.  Do a Google search on page1.html and see. Last count I did there were 12.5 Million pages it must be a popular topic.  Check your title now if it isn’t relevant – change it to something relevant. Change the text in the <title> </title> brackets to the relevant text. I’ll wait.

Nuclear Headers

Ah you are back your page is now called Nuclear Arms – Make them in Your Kitchen. Your section headers <h1>, <h2>, should also have relevant text in them.  Again going on the booming nuclear warhead blogosphere example if you want to explain the price fluctuations in uranium and your section head does not have relevant text then you are out of luck. Go down through your page and have a look. There are tons of headers called Introduction and Overview on web pages because people didn’t think of good titles.  These are lonely unvisited sites.  Also very boooooring and Google will pass you bye like a taxi at rush hour. Check your page s.I can still wait I will go to the YouTube Nuclear Arms channel while you have a look and change.

Radioactive Text

Welcome back, YouTube was great.  Again your overall text needs to have relevant text and stand out and be radioactive  (see a pattern).  Word of warning,  don’t just go crazy spreading nuclear warhead text everywhere to fool Google.  Google isn’t stupid it will quickly work it out and just as quickly dump you. This isn’t something I can go to YouTube and wait for you on.  Spend time on your text, write well written articles and regular information on the topic.  Google will love you for it.  A few days a week revisit your site and blog and write new content or even finde tune existing content. Your work will eventually pay off.

Fall Out – Hello Google I am Here!

Google has to know that you exist in the first place. To do this you need to go to Google at its Webmaster tools and register your site and verify your site. Google explains it much better than me.  Take some time to do it.  Benefits, now Google knows you exist and at least it will crawl your site. It is easy to do and doesn’t take that long.  It also helps to have a site map but I won’t cover that here.

The Nuclear Winter for the Budding SEO Expert

If you want to raise the ranking of your site and get to page one on Google don’t talk to me. If you want a business to get solid traffic you need the help of an Internet marketing, SEO professional.  I am not one of those.  I can give you some help and do it by default for new web site clients on Grange Web Design.

However there are some excellent SEO, Internet professionals out there that can help you.  The tips above are just simple ones.  SEO is hard bloody work.  It takes time, effort understanding of your niche.  If you want your site to rank organically on Google it won’t happen overnight.  It can take weeks, months for the work to pay off. Some excellent people in this field are David Quaid in Primary Position and Eoin O’Leary at the Internet Marketing Clinic.  I only recommend them because I know their work and they do it well. These people are experts.  If you are in a competitive niche like nuclear warhead blogging or perhaps web design th n talk to these guys – it will be money well spent.

Last but not least.  In a few days go to Google and plug in the search terms nuclear SEO blog and see how this page does – grin -.

Apple WWDC Worried Thoughts of an Apple Fan

Apples WWWDC is over for another year.  The internet was alive with all the new features and updates that it brought and I could blog for several pages on all the great stuff that it brought.  However I am not as for the next few days articles, reviews and detailed overviews are going to be clogging Apple lovers veins with updates.  I do have some serious thoughts about the constant changes that I would like your opinions on.

  1. 3-6 months seems to be the life of any application these days.  The last 2 months looking expectantly for the next release.
  2. It is obvious that with product lifecycles that the next release of Apple’s products must be already be well under development for next Christmas as by then we will be all bored of the current technology and the market will be looking for updates.
  3. The recession is of course hitting us all so I expect price to be one of the key differentiators for people on top of the actual technology.
  4. It is still extremely pricey to be an early adoptor with the above business model in place. There should be some reward for taking that early leap.
  5. It is only a matter of time before Apple start developing or purchase some sort of App themselves that they will start to sell over the App store that will be the super app that we constantly look for.

Google Celebrates Tetris Birthday

Happy Birthday Tetris

Happy Birthday Tetris

Google is displaying a special logo today celebrating Tetris and its 25 Years of The Tetris Effect (per the Alt tag) the logo is linked to a search for tetris. Tetris the game was originally designed and programmed by Alexey Pajitnov and released on June 6, 1984 (OK I Googled that fact).  Currently it can be seen in Google Australia.  Happy Birthday Tetris.

Apple iPhone OS 3.0 Links

The week ahead has two expected important pieces of news from Apple.  One is the new OS for the iPhone and the second is expected announcement of a new version of the iPhone on June 8th.,  I personally do not think this is going to happen for the following reasons.

  • Apple will not want WWDC which is essentially a developer conference to  get mixed up with the release of a new iPhone
  • They would prefer to have a separate event for the hardware as I personally think that they have not tied down the feature and profile of the phone or there would have been more leaks on the web.

The upcoming  iPhone OS 3.0 software release is meant to have over 1,000 completelynew APIs. Here is some of the online links about the new release of the iPhone OS 2.0 at WWDC.
