Jump Out of Your Skin

I am updating this post as I have been out and about EVE N more hunting for WIFI with my iPhone.  More and more Cork shops and bars are now understanding that WIFI for free is expected from their customers.  With iPhonesand devices now having extremely accessible internet as part of their feature set people check their email and surf the internet as a matter of course and are even surprised when they cannot accesss the net.

I was in town on Friday night for a work night out and of course had my Iphone with me and in two of the bars I was in they had free WIFI.  I was pleasantly surprised !! The Rob Roy and SOHO had a good network.  Unfortunately while online in SOHO my Iphone crashed so I had to restore it late that evening when I got home (with a few beers on board believe me it wasn’t easy.

I have seen a few links out there with maps of WIFI in Cork but they seem to be out of date so I have started to create a Google Map below with links to the ones I know and have heard of – need to work out some sort of pin key for those that actually work and those that I have actually used !!

I installed ASKIMET today – I know I should have done it a long time ago.  My spam on one this blog was getting too high (too high for me anyway).  I was getting 10-15 per day and the same on my shopping blog.  It will be interesting to see what impact it has.

It is real easy to install as well especially with the new version of WordPress (2.7).  You need to set up an account on wordpress.com and then it emails you your API key.

Since I last blogged here I have been pretty busy on a number of technical fronts. I have setup a sub domain for shopping to try and make some money while telling friends about what is out there in Internet shopping land. Visit shopping.grangeheights.com for the low down. It currently has a nice Christmas theme.

As part of this I have signed up for a number of Affiliate programs so have expanded my knowledge (but not my income) by getting to know how some of these work. I have primarily used Tradedoubler and the Amazon Affiliates program.

I dusted off a Drupal book I have the other day and I am slavishly and slowly stepping through this as I feel that Drupal can offer the most in CMS for me if I just dig deep into it.

The Kerry Stop Sex Trafficking Campaign web site is now up and running.  I set this up to support their sticker campaign and it will be interesting to see how many hits it gets.  I set this up really quickly for them and ona budget as they are a non-profit with no funds.  Its sites like these that are fun to work with sometimes.  Light and easy 2-3 pages ate most.
